Hi,am an f-1 student here in the US and a BSN student.I will be graduating next spring semester and really have high hopes of finding a hospital that will sponsor me a greencard to legally work and live in the US,but one problem i will like the experts to advice me on is the fact that my student visa expires on December 31,2009.I will graduate on mid May and have a special family emergency back home to go.So 1)Would i be allowed to go out of the US and come back when my visa hasnt expired but have graduated and waiting to be granted a job as a nurse in the hospital and probably be on an OPT at that time? Will the USCIS allow me entry into the US in this situation? 2)If NO,what can i do to ensure that i gain entry into the US when i decide to visit my home country and come back into the US with my visa exp date far from near? 3)Can i apply for OPT after graduation or before graduation(which is the best) 4)Should i necessarily have a hospital to employ me before i can apply for OPT,do the OPT applicants all have employees after they graduate? 5)How long does it take BSN nurses to get their Permanent residency after they get sponsored by their hospitals or employers.Need professional advice on all this questions especially the 1st 3.Thanks

  1. Contact the US government immigration office they'd know better.

  2. You can apply for OPT without having a job first.

It takes about 3-5 years to get a green card through employer sponsorship. Probably, your employer will inititally give you an H-1 and only start the green card process after you have worked there a couple of years and they decide they like you.

I don't know the answers to the others. have you tried calling BCIS?

  3. get job first
