Imogen Bankier – Chris Adcock need to get extraordinary results to qualify for 2012 London Olympics
Scotland’s Imogen Bankier and England’s Chris Adcock need to produce extraordinary results in upcoming events if they want to find a place in the 2012 Olympic Games.
Bankier and Adcock surprised the world when they played phenomenal badminton and clinched the silver medal at the 2011 World Championships. The event was held at the Wembley Indoor Arena, in London, England. Their wonderful performance in the mega event
helped them to get the Number 15 position in the Mixed Doubles world rankings.
Three couples from Great Britain are in close competition to find a place in the Olympic Games. Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork are ranked at Number 12, while Gabrielle White and Robert Blair are placed at Number 19
spot.
Bankier knows their position and the chances for qualifying in the mega event. He said, “To qualify for London you need to be in the top 16 in the world and be the most highly ranked in your own country. If you have two teams in the top eight they can both
qualify, and, if a country has three teams in the top four, they all get to compete at the Olympics.”
While talking about the rankings of the top three couples of the country, Bankier added, “But, at the moment, we're 15th, Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork are 12th, and Robert Blair and Gabrielle White are 19th, so it's just that one place for Great Britain.”
The qualifying round for the Olympic Games in going on and it is an open competition for the three couples of Great Britain to improve their ranking and qualify for the mega event. Currently, only one couple is eligible to participate in the London Olympics.
Bankier and Adcock need to work extremely hard for getting into the top ten and securing a chance to get a place in the Olympics. They need to remain consistent in upcoming events and perform well to earn more and more ranking points.
The forthcoming event for Bankier and Adcock is the Denmark Open Premier Super Series and in the first round, they are set to meet their team-mates, Blair and White. Getting good results in this event can help the duo in attaining a higher world ranking,
which will multiply their chances to qualify for the Olympic Games.
