Imogen Bankier and Chris Adcock confident to perform well at the 2012 London Olympics
Mixed Doubles shuttlers, Imogen Bankier and Chris Adcock from England and Scotland are confident to perform well at the 2012 London Olympics as they have done extremely well in the 2011 World Championships. The pair finished as the silver medallists by losing
to Chinese couple, Yunlei Zhao and Nan Zhang in the final on Sunday, August 14.
World Number 18 ranked duo, Adcock and Bankier delivered a phenomenal performance throughout the mega event by winning against higher ranked shuttlers until the final, where the Chinese couple of Yunlei Zhao and Nan Zhang stopped the winning run of the English
pair and won the title with a 21-15 and 21-7 margin.
However, the wonderful performance of the English pair has made them confident enough to expect a title berth at the London Olympics in the Mixed Doubles category. Their tremendous performance in the mega event has built hopes of England finding a title
in the Olympic Games.
After the final match, Bankier said, "To play the number of games we have at Wembley has been a fantastic experience for what will hopefully be a successful Olympics. In terms of Olympic qualifying this is a great start and hopefully we will shoot up the
rankings.”
However, the couple could not play well against the Chinese shuttlers in the title match as they failed to stop the aggressive run of their opponents in the whole match and lost it without any considerable fight.
While talking about their performance in the final, Adcock, who was disappointed after losing the final match without putting up strong resistance, expressed that being beaten in this manner is quite disappointing but at the same time he was satisfied with
the fact that they have won the silver medal.
He described his satisfaction with the overall performance in the event by saying, "We have played the badminton of our lives and we will be even more motivated and inspired to go that extra one."
Now, the duo is targeting the title at the Olympic Games which are just 11 months away. The event will be played at the Wembley Arena, where the current World Championships took place.
