Imogen Bankier and Jenny Wallwork make ceasefire after Twitter war – Badminton news
British badminton players Imogen Bankier and Jenny Wallwork have made a cease-fire and apologised for their recent war on Twitter. The word conflict started last week on a social networking site, when Scotland’s Bankier tweeted against her English rival
Wallwork after watching highlights of the English National Championships.
Despite the fact that the duo practice together and have a good off-court relationship, they fell in a spat because of their selection for London Olympics as only one of both ladies is expected to qualify on merit.
The shuttlers had to face the music when England’s badminton circle tagged their moves as cheap tricks for publicity. Both players were under severe criticism for being involved in such talks. It seems that their conscious was pinching them throughout the
fight and both players have now made-up by apologising on the same forum.
In her latest tweet, Bankier wrote, “I made a bad call in judgement and want to apologise for my actions. I would like to put this whole issue behind me and concentrate on playing badminton with the aim of qualifying for London 2012.”
Wallwork also decided to clear the atmosphere and let her racket talk. She said, “One hundred percent of my focus is now back on playing badminton and hopefully qualifying for the London Olympics.”
The qualifying round for the mega event is underway and will end on May 3. Both shuttlers are racing away to find precious ranking points to qualify for the Games. At the upcoming All England Championships, both ladies will put everything they have in their
possession to prove their worth in the home event and capture as much points as possible. The Premier Super Series event will help them to elevate their world ranking which can ensure an Olympic berth.
Bankier, with her partner Chris Adcock bagged a silver medal at the 2011 World Championships in London. The couple is currently sitting at 14th spot in the Mixed Doubles World rankings. On the other hand, Wallwork, who plays in the company of
veteran Nathan Robertson, is positioned at number 18 in the world placements.
