Imogen Bankier confident to win Mixed Doubles gold medal in 2012 London Olympics
Scotland’s talented shuttler, Imogen Bankier is confident to win the Mixed Doubles gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. She, with his English partner, Chris Adcock, wants to impress the local crowd in the mega event which will take place in London during the ending week of July.
Bankier and Adcock, who have been positioned at number 14 in the Mixed Doubles world rankings, proved their worth in the 2011 Badminton World Championships, where they won the silver medal.
Now, Bankier and Adcock will go all out to win Mixed Doubles gold at Olympics which will take place at Wembley Arena in London, which is the same venue that was used in the World Championships last year.
The 24-year-old Bankier wants to win Britain’s first ever gold medal in the Mixed Doubles category. She wants to perform better than another English pair of Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms, who won the silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Bankier and Adcock have been performing well for the last one year and have got a respectable world ranking. Many people think that the duo can create upset in the tournament as they have a strong faith and confidence in themselves.
While talking about her prospects in the mega event, Bankier said that the couple is confident win against all top shuttlers in the arena of badminton. She also said that their training is going well and they are on the right track.
She said, “We’re quietly confident because our form has been good and we’ve been consistent. But all the pairs are good and on their day can beat anyone. Training’s been going really well - we’re about halfway through Olympic qualifying.”
While talking about her preparations and upcoming plans for London Olympics, Bankier said that the couple will participate in many tournaments before the mega event.
She said, “We’ve got about seven more events but we’re on track. We’re currently the top Team GB pair - but there’ll be a lot of movement amongst the pairs but we’re doing OK.”
Bankier and Adcock are determined to remain on the right track and have faith that they can win their first ever gold medal in Olympic Games.
