Imogen Bankier optimistic for good results at 2012 London Olympics, Badminton News
Scotland’s Imogen Bankier is quite optimistic for good results in the 2012 London Olympics along with her English partner Chris Adcock. The event will start from the last week of July at the Wembley Indoor Arena in London, England.
Bankier and Adcock, who are positioned at number 14 in the Mixed Doubles world placements, have been playing good badminton at international level for the last one year and are determined to put up good show in the upcoming tournaments.
In the 2011 World Championships, Bankier and Adcock surprised the world by putting up sensational show of top quality badminton when they defied all odds and reached into the final of the tournament.
However, they lost to top seeds Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei of China, who are currently World Number One in Mixed Doubles category.
Bankier and Adcock won the silver medal at World Championships, which was a surprising performance from the couple as they were the un-seeded participants in the mega event.
The 2012 London Olympics will also take place at the same Wembley Indoor arena where the last edition of World Championships took place and Bankier and Adcock are in good shape to deliver the same elevated performance again.
In the last month’s Korea Open Premier Super Series, Bankier and Adcock took revenge of their defeat from Nan and Yunlei in the title match of World Championships, as they defeated the top seeds in straight games.
Now, Bankier and Adcock will face the World Number One pair of China in the first round of All England Open Premier Super Series tomorrow and Bankier is confident to perform well against the Chinese opponents.
She said, "We learnt a lot at Wembley and we had a very specific game plan which we implemented extremely well in Korea.”
She further added, "I think that just shows the worlds were not a fluke and if we can make a final there and go on and beat the number one pair in the world I'd say our chance in the Olympics look very good indeed."
Bankier and Adcock are expected to be potential contenders for the title at Olympic Games as they are working hard in training sessions to tackle all top shuttlers in the arena of badminton.
