  1. well....removal from families can have a severe impact on them....especially if they are old enough to be aware...but CPS generally tries to weigh the decision for removal over nonremoval based upon the child's best interests....

I/E: if a child is removed for abuse/neglect reasons (as it is in most cases), the child would likely have been harmed by remaining in the household. CPS places them in temporary (foster) homes....in an effort to allow the parents to regain control of their lives and, eventually, be reunited with their child. In many cases, the parent cannot make the necessary changes needed to be reconnected with the child, and thus the child remains in foster care or is placed for adoption and termination of parental rights. This is not the 'best' option, as that will always be with the biological parent....but when a biological parent cannot care for their child CPS and foster care is the 'best' option available.

  2. In 99% of cases the impact is positive as simply removing them from an abusive situation is in their interest. As someone said its best to keep the children together and that is usually what happens. Usually contact with the family is maintained via visits.

  3. Not an expert but worked in the family court area for a while.

It depends on age.  It's usually great for kids 4-6 but tougher on the older ones, 7-9.  In general, the kids put into the care of the state are happy to be clean, fed, and clothed.

I think it's bad if the kids in different age groups have to be separated.   That's to me going to impact the kids the most dramatically.
