Question:

Impacted Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

Has anyone that has had completely impacted wisdom teeth only had local anesthetic? Because I do not want to be put under....not completely under and not even loopy. I just want them to numb the area and do it while I'm awake. Will they do this?

  1. Yeah, they will do whatever you ask them to. It's your choice. But I strongly recommend just using general anesthesia. It's totally safe until you have like tons of health issues or medical history of being allergic to it. It will just be a tiny needle injection for the IV and you will fall asleep in less than a minute. You will wake up in what feels like a minute and everything is done. If you stay awake, you will see and hear everything they are doing... the cutting, drilling, blood, etc. It's really not worth it. Besides, the general anesthesia didn't make me feel "loopy" or whatever. I just felt sleepy and tired...didn't make me "high" like most people say.

  2. youre insane for wanting this.

  3. no I'm sorry you have to go under general anesthesia. Actually I got all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out yesterday, my lower wisdom teeth were impacted, they were growing inwards toward my other teeth. Like you I was scared of going under, but it wasnt bad at all. You will be fine:)

  4. I had it done 2 years ago because they were shoving my teeth frontwards and it was hurting badly.

They didn't ask me if I wanted to be completely under or loopy. I think it's the dentists' choice. If you panic during the procedure a lot could go wrong. Even if you were loopy you could still freak out and cause some unneeded damage. I was put all the way under. They give you a little pill to take in the morning before you go and it makes you feel really really heavy. Kind of like your leg is asleep but it's all over your body. Then they bring you to the back once you get there and lay you in this massive chair and cover you with lots of blankets. I had two needles put in, one on my left upper arm and one on my hand. They hook you up to heart monitors and that's that. Once they cover your face you're completely out and don't notice anything.

Don't worry about it! If they do ask I'd choose to be put under. Once you leave you're in a lot of pain but when you get home you're still really tired from the drugs so you sleep.

  5. i just had this done last friday. they gave me local so i wasnt all the way out. i couldnt feel anything but i was awake. i wasnt loopy afterwards. i felt fine just numb till the next morning.

  6. i'm pretty sure they will do that.  when i had to have this done they asked me beforehand if i wanted local anesthetic or if i wanted to be put under.  i chose the latter of the two, so i can't say i've done it the way you want it, but i do know they gave me the option

  7. Why not get loopy? That's the fun part!
