Question:

Implantation bleeding? Scared to test, afraid will be heartbroken again?

I had my last normal period, I am on birth control pills (unfortunately for my partners peace of mind, I want a child, but he isn't ready until after marriage). I was on a course of antibiotics, and, oops - there goes the ineffectiveness of the pills - 5 days of general antibiotics slipped my mind. Not to mention, I have a clinic pack & the pills weren't popping out properly, instead they were coming out crushed, thus, ineffective (as the directions say not to crush, break, or chew). I've had 3 clinic packs, all 3 have been defective...so I have missed several pills for the past 3 months, but this month is significant due to the antibiotics (doxycycline).

Monday (8/18) my period was supposed to arrive. Instead, light pink tinged mucus upon wiping (TMI, sorry). This morning & afternoon, no light pink mucus, no sign of blood.

Aside from that, last night one breast was slightly more swollen in the nipple area (puffy, and I've never had puffy nipples) and appears bigger than the other. The larger breast also had a darkened aereola - brown compared to light pink on the other side...

I've been mood swinging, so badly today I had to leave work in a fit of tears. My cramps (that I had been having strongly) have almost vanished, just gassy (TMI, sorry) like before my period, and bloated feeling (but without all the PMS discomfort). Hungry, hungry, hungry. Peeing all the time (while grocery shopping I had to go 3x's - something I never do - especially not with public restrooms!).

I know everyone will reccomend taking a test. I'm engaged and unafraid to have a child. However, I am afraid to test - the few other times that we thought we were going to get a surprise, we ended up with bitter dissapointment. And I always wind up crying for days after a BFN - planned or unplanned.

So how long should I wait to test? And I know everyone always asks "Am I pregnant" - but really, what are my chances from your experiences?

  1. Your best bet is to wait at least another week. I was 5 days late for my last period and tested a whole bunch within that time. I was beyond bloated and gassy, but then my period came soon after. So just wait a while and see if you start. Try not to get yourself too worked up over it in the meantime. If it's meant to be, then it will happen.

  2. when i had implantation bleeding it sounded very much like what you described...only i had it two weeks after my period not when my period was due...so really i think it could go either way...

of all the symptoms you mentioned though one rang true for me...when i was pregnant with my second child before i knew i was...i ate way more than normal..i was hungry all the time...so that could be a good sign.

i know you are afraid of being heart broken but remember this...if its negative...that does not mean you won't ever have that positive test...

just remember the test is simply to let you know one way or the other...it won't change whatever is happening in your body...

just go ahead an ease your worry even if it means disappointment...

hang in there and i truly hope you see the results you want to see....

  3. take the test.
