Import mini-dv with no firewire?

I have a Sony handycam DCR-HC36. I need to import a lot of footage to my computer from mini-dv, but I have no firewire. Please help, fastest usable solution gets "best answered"!

  1. Since your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable.  If you're using a laptop, make sure you check whether it uses PCMCIA or Express expansion cards - they're not interchangeable.


  2. Firewire for importing DV from the miniDV tape is it.

    Even if you do get video over USB (which is doubtful because Windows no longer supports it - that's why there are no drivers), it won't be DV - it will be some highly compressed MPEG and video quality will not be very good.
