  1. I dont know what to do. I have the same problem. But its nice to know that its not only my computer that is having issues =)

  2. Have you tried the software that came with the camera?? Try perusing the FAQ's section on the Sony support site!! Follow the link below..........

  3. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

If you have a mini dvd camcorder….

You will have to finalize your dvd in the camera and then put the dvd in your computer 's DVD burner (top loading only) and then you will have to convert the files (i downloaded handbrake file converter free) and import them into your editing program. Use the HELP feature in your editing program to learn about editing. Once you are ready to burn, your project will be burned to a different DVD and you can file the original away.

  4. Judging by your question, I'd say you have a camcorder that takes miniDVD discs, am I correct? If not, this answer does not apply.

Yes it would be very convenient if you could just pop in the miniDVD and attempt to "import video" directly into Windows Movie Maker. However, the Windows Movie Maker is pretty much useless, and isn't compatible with many formats. In fact, not many programs are designed to import miniDVD files directly into the program for editing, I would know... I had the exact same problem. I always thought that you could simply plug the camcorder into the provided USB cord, but that seemed useless.

I finally found the solution in a program called Ulead Movie Factory. Its a cheap program, that renders videos at slightly higher quality than the Movie Maker (I believe its arond $50). In Ulead, all you need to do is pop in the miniDVD into the E-Drive, then launch the program. Once you have opened a new project, you will come across a page with a bunch of editing controls, with your timeline and what not. Now all you have to do is press a button that says "import video files from a DVD"... or something to that effect. Then you can edit and save to your computer. I know for sure this procedure works with DVD-Rs and DVD-RAMs, but I honestly never tried a DVD-RW... I don't see why not though. Hope that helps.
