Import videos from handycam to computer

i am unable to import videos from my mini dv digital handycam to my laptop with vista as operating system.is a i-link cable required or usb cable will do? i have the picture motion software and import from handycam software dowloaded through net.

can u help me out???

Cannot input video from my Sony DCR-TRV350 to Windows Vista.
