  1. Library science is an interdisciplinary science incorporating the humanities, law and applied science to study topics related to libraries, the collection, organization, preservation and dissemination of information resources, and the political economy of information.

Historically, library science has also included Archival science.

The distinction between a library and an archive is relatively modern.

So the study of "library science" INCLUDES learning about preserving and conserving documents and writings, because this was one of the original functions of libraries.

  2. are you speaking of keeping library itmes conserved..

I just took over a library that had been closed for 35 yrs..without heat or cooling in the building ...infact no electricity even..It had been a old one room school house before becoming the library in 1938.

The books inside were ruined..even though they would of needed replaced by books that were current, they still might have had some value if not for the mold and mildew in each one. i tried very hard to save some, did save a first edition of Cohens ..Men against Hitler from 1938, and some burtons travelogues, but thats about it..

    the stench was horrid...

the job was done however, and paint is on the walls, the shelves are bulging with wonderful donated books..and open 10 hrs aweek..we circulate about 100 books a week, with about 20 kids coming to after school program

ok..enough about that,,,,but it is very important to consevre and perserve the collections in librarys
