I'm doing a little survey. Here are the following questions (please answer all of the questions I posted before and people only answered the first, this is an important survey)

1. Would you prefer a Giant, large, medium, or small dog?

2. What breed would you choose (out of these) and why?

Husky

Boxer

Pitt bull

German Shepard

Collie

Golden Retriever

Poodle

Chihuahua

Shih Tzu

Great Dane

Doberman

Daschund

Yorkie

3. Would you own a bully breed? (Pitt bull, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rotwieler, etc)

4. Is it bad dogs or bad owners?

5. Do you feel there is a better solution than BSL (breed specific legislation)? (definition of BSL at the bottom of the survey)

6. If you adopted a dog at the shelter believing it was one thing but finding out it was predominantly Pitt bull what would you do?

Would you keep him, even if it meant having to move?

7. What is your favorite breed of all time (doesn't have to be on the list)?

For BSL Supporters:

1. Will you still support BSL when your little dog Fluffy gets added to the list?

Did you know Chihuahuas have been added to the most agresssive breeds list?

Did you know many areas of Canada have banned Jack Russell Terriers?

To everyone, I do not have a stand one way or the other on the issue of BSL. this is simply a unbiased survey for a project. An important project.

Thanks

Clarification

BSL is basically towns are banning and putting to death any and all dogs of a breed they feel is agressive or a threat to society. Pitt bull in on top of the list for many towns

    6. If I adopted a dog & found out it was a Pit I'd either keep it or see if my daughter wanted it because she has Pits & loves the breed.

    7. My favorite breed is the Doberman Pinschers & they have been in my life & home for over decades.

    4. Is it bad dogs or bad owners?

    Owners

    5. Do you feel there is a better solution than BS (breed specific legislation)? (definition of BS at the bottom of the survey)

    6) If it was a nice, friendly dog that suited my life/other pets i wouldn't worry AT ALL.

    7)The Dalmatian.

    Thank-you for this quiz.

  7. 1. Would you prefer a Giant, large, medium, or small dog?

My dog is large, and I prefer the medium to large size of dog.

    2. What breed would you choose (out of these) and why?

You didn't list my breed - he is a labrador/pointer.  We were interested in those breeds (he is a shelter mutt) because they are typically good with kids (which he is).  From your list only, I would probably be interested in a Poodle (Standard only) because, as a hunting dog, they also may be good with children, or a Collie, as I have heard they are also good with kids.  I love Staffordshires (Pits), and they are traditionally excellent with children, but owning one in this social climate is too overwhelming for me, and I think they are an "advanced breed" and should usually be owned by more experienced dog owners for the best benefit to the dog.

    3. Would you own a bully breed? (Pitt bull, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rotwieler, etc)

A Rotwieler is not a Bully breed.  American Bulldog and Bull Terrier are both Bully breeds though.  Bully refers to the type of dog and his historical breeding, not to a behaviour (it comes from bulls, the animal, not from bullying the act).

I would love to have a Staffordshire, but I don't think I can provide the best training and environment for them, especially in this social climate.  They can be wonderful dogs, but they need to be trained appropriately.

    4. Is it bad dogs or bad owners?

Bad owners, because you have to be aware of your dogs in-bred tendencies and temperament.

    5. Do you feel there is a better solution than BSL (breed specific legislation)? (definition of BSL at the bottom of the survey)

Yes - legislation regarding animal behaviour testing.  If a Staffy passes the CGC, I'd rather have that next door than an untrained Chihuahua.

    6. If you adopted a dog at the shelter believing it was one thing but finding out it was predominantly Pitt bull what would you do?

I would keep him, without a doubt, though I'd invest in some serious training to make sure any of the inborn dog-dog agression is managed.

Would you keep him, even if it meant having to move?

Actually, if you adopt him from here he'd have paperwork saying he was whatever you thought he was, so even if he turned out to be Pitty you'd have paperwork declaring him as not, and therefore you wouldn't have to move.

And I don't live in a BSL city, which is one of the reasons I like my city and chose to move here.

    7. What is your favorite breed of all time (doesn't have to be on the list)?

    I love my labradork!

  8. 1. Would you prefer a Giant, large, medium, or small dog?

    Large

    2. What breed would you choose (out of these) and why?

Scottish Rough Collie...Because that is what I have:)

    3. Would you own a bully breed? (Pitt bull, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rotwieler, etc)

I might own a Rottweiler or a Doberman, but I would be concerned about my homeowners insurance being dropped.

    4. Is it bad dogs or bad owners?

    Bad owners

    5. Do you feel there is a better solution than BSL (breed specific legislation)? (definition of BSL at the bottom of the survey)

I think that there should be a legal method for approving dog ownership.  People would have to go through a series of classes and tests and then get a lisence to own a dog, if they qualify.  Anyone who does not and gets a dog anyway should be fined and the dog taken and rehomed.

    6. If you adopted a dog at the shelter believing it was one thing but finding out it was predominantly Pitt bull what would you do?

What could I do?  I would use training to help the dog be the best he/she could be...just like I would with any dog.

Would you keep him, even if it meant having to move?

I don't know...we own our home and our 3 kids are pretty happy here, so I might rehome the dog if keeping him meant I have to sell my home and move.

    7. What is your favorite breed of all time (doesn't have to be on the list)?

Bernese Mountain Dogs are Beautiful, but I really am partial to my Collie.

    For BSL Supporters:

I am not a supporter of this but will answer anyway...

    1. Will you still support BSL when your little dog Fluffy gets added to the list?

    No

Did you know Chihuahuas have been added to the most agresssive breeds list?

I am not surprised...those little dogs can sure be snippy and growly.

Did you know many areas of Canada have banned Jack Russell Terriers?

No, I did not know that.

3.) Yes I would because I have a great sweet loving family Pit Bull.

4.) Bad Owners are the biggest problem and the cause of bad dogs.

5.) Yes I do feel there is away better solution than BSL. I think BSL is B S.  I think there should be different type of dog licenses required with that comes classess, fees and ceratin requirements for certain breeds. This would protect dogs and people.

6.) I would keep the dog Ihave NO problems with Pit Bulls I take each dog on a individual basis and I would NEVER be so IGNORANT to judge a breed based on biased news media I know several PIt Bulls and everyone them is a great.

7.) My ALL time favorite breed is the Labrador Retriever, I have owned many many breeds but by far I prefer the Labs for their fun loving nature, their devotion, their intelligence, their affectionate nature, they are just the best and most perfect for me.

  11. 1. I just prefer dog.

    2. Probably a great dane, but only because I have always wanted  one. I love all dogs.

    3. No, only because I have small children.

    4. Bad owners, and dogs have bad backgrounds.

    5.Yes.

    6. Keep it. If the dogs is nice then why does it matter?

    7. Too many that I love, sorry I just cant pick one. :)

3.) Maybe, if I had room and new how to train it.

    4.) Bad owners

    5.) Yes, owners being responsible.

6.) Take it back, but only since I don't have room for it to be happy.

    7.) Shih-tzu

  13. 1 Giant

2 Doberman, great temparement, smart, loyal

    3 yes

    4 Mostly bad owners

5 yes anything is better than BSL

6 Yes the dog is a life time commitment

    7. Mastiffs

I do not support BSL. Mastiffs are on the list in several states.

  14. 1)Large

2)German shepherd- I find them as great loving compassionate dogs, who would be great for a family dog.

    3)Yeah, why not?

    4)Bad Owners

5)Kill all irresponsible owners who make all those BSL banned dogs aggressive.

6)Not care at all, I love all dogs!

7)Either a German Shepherd or a Labrador Retriever

  15. ok here goes....

    1. medium     2. Pit bull   3. Yes, I have two,  an American Bulldog & a Pitbull   4.  Bad owners   5.yes   6. I would work with the dog.and train it to be a good dog   7.American Bulldog

    to the rest: no, no

  16. 1. large dog

    2. None of the above, Johnson American Bulldog

    3. American Bulldog is a bully breed only because of their looks

    4. BAD OWNERS

    5. Much better solution, put the owners in jail

    6. Love it

    7. American Bulldog

  17. 1. I don't really like anything smaller than medium sized dogs.

    2. Definitely a Pitbull. I currently own 3 and have rescued, rehabilitated, and re homed around 20 in the past 5 years.

    3. Yes 10 times over.

    4. Definitely BAD OWNERS...any dog raised in the improper environment can be 'bad'. It's not a breed thing.

    5. Yes I do. I think instead of blaming the dogs for their owners ignorance they should be leaning more towards foster homes for the 'troubled' dogs. A place to get them back on track. And banning the 'owners' of the 'troubled' dogs from owning another pet.

    6. If I was going to adopt another dog from the shelter it would be a Pitbull. Over half of dogs and puppies of that breed don't make it out of the shelter because of their breed and what people have made them out to be. If BSL ever came to my area, yes I would move. My dogs are like my kids. I'm not going to leave them behind because someone only sees the bad they think they are.

    7. Favorite breed would be the APBT, AMST, AMBT, and any other bully breed. We own an English Mastiff along with our 3 Pitbulls also and a Shihtzapoo who was a rescue from a shelter also.

  18. 1. I prefer Large and Giant Breeds...(More to love!)

    2. German Shepherd/Pit Bull. I love both breeds. I feel that they are very loyal, highly intelligent, and very sweet.

    3. Yes. I currently own an APBT.

    4. I believe a lot of it has to do with bad owners, however, a lot of popular breeds are being inbred and overbred. This makes their genetic makeup a bit off and can result in an unbalanced dog. I think that it is sometimes a combination of the two. A lot of people aren't holding their dogs up to high breeding standards and will just breed 2 dogs together who haven't been tested, or had their temperments properly checked.

    5. I think that instead of BSL, there should be stricter laws that allow people to obtain bully breeds, or really any dog. People should be well educated on socialization, training, etc. before jumping in to dog ownership. People that have only gotten dogs for their size, intimidation factor, etc, should not own any dogs at all. I think those who have made a bad name for certain dog breeds, should be punished.

    6. It would not be a big deal to me. I would definitely move before ever even thinking of giving up my dog.

    7. It is so hard for me to pick a favorite... I will always have a soft spot for the APBT, but German Shepherds are also right there with them. I love both breeds for different reasons, as they are totally different breeds.

  19. 1) Medium

    2) Pit Bull

    3) I do

    4) Bad and uninformed owners

    5) Obviously

    6) I would be upset that I was lied to but if the dog was a good dog I would educate myself about the breed and love it just the same.

    7) Toss up Weimeraner/Pitbull

    Definitely

    4. Is it bad dogs or bad owners?

    Yes, there has to be.

    6. If you adopted a dog at the shelter believing it was one thing but finding out it was predominantly Pitt bull what would you do?

    Shih Tzu

    Great Dane

None of them really appeal to me, honestly. Probably the Shih Tzu if I HAD to pick. Pugs are my forte.

    3. Would you own a bully breed? (Pitt bull, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rotwieler, etc)

    Yes, I would.

    4. Is it bad dogs or bad owners?

    Bad Genetics, and bad owners.

3.i dont think there is any breed which is a "bully breed" i think a dog which is bought up correctly will behave as such....any dog will bite a chiold pullin and poking it and any dog will react if the feel threatend. but i think if dogs are trained right and disiclpined (not beaten!!!!!) they wil be fine, i wouldnt mind non of these dogs....i rather like staffys.

    4.BAD OWNERS!!!!!!

5.i think this is wrong but i also think its not the dogs fault. i dont see how people though will ever learn to treat their dogs right.....maybe free dog training classes would help?

7.erm well i myself have only had westies when i was younger but i think english bulldogs are the cutest and i love em....although they do have alot of health issues due to overbreeding(hence the reason i wouldnt like 2 own 1)

NOTE: thank god this BSL is not in the uk.....the uks top domestic dogh is the jack russel (id guess so) my aunite y=used 2 breed and once had 14 + pups and my other auntie now has 2 and not 1 of them was ever viscoius....ITS NOT THE DOGS FAULT.

    3. Yep I'd own a bully breed.

    4. Bad owners.

    5. I don't have one but for a start the media could lay off the bully breeds.

    6. It wouldn't make a difference (well, if i lived in America - Pit types banned in England)
