Question:

Important interview help

I have an important interview for a job that will have me working w/ mentally disabled adults and children. I really have wanted to be in the human services field and this will be a great opportunity so I want to make sure I go in there and "wow" them. I know once I start working there I will not be wearing business suits due to the type of work and will most likely be wearing khakis and other casual attire. I am not sure what to wear to the interview, should I do a skirt and low heels, or slightly more casual dress slacks with a nice shirt and dress shoes? I would also appreciate any other tips or questions that might be asked of me for a position in the mental health field. Thanks.

  2. I would go with a longer skirt and nice blouse or a nice pair of dress pants and blouse. Either of these will be fine. You are on the right track! :) I had an interview the other day that will require me to wear business casual clothes, but I wore a business suit to the interview. You should always dress up for the interview, no matter what you would wear for the job itself.

One thing I know about this field is you may have to work flexible hours, possibly nights and weekends or second and third shifts. So, they may ask about your flexibility in hours.

They may ask if you have a driver's license or are willing to get a CDL or similar in order to transport clients. It depends on the job, but there are many places in my area that require employees to transport clients.

They definitely want to see your genuine compassion for the adults and children. They will want to know why you want to work with them. You should talk from the heart and speak about your passion for them.

They will want to know how you handle stress/crises, which can occur with this population. They may give you scenarios and ask you how you would handle them.

    Good luck to you!
