Important lessons learnt from the midweek Champions League clashes
Real Madrid managed to score just one goal in their match against Auxerre. That might not seem like a giant problem, considering the fact that the team is barely conceding any goals and currently has one of the strongest defences in Europe. However it is
the teams attack that seems to be suffering a major problem.
The team tends to create, more than a handful of chances but they seem to fail to capitalize on all of them. Jose Mourinho, would have acknowledged this major defect, in the otherwise flawless side and will be looking to inspire his team, to get their shooting
minds back, as soon as possible. In the past Madrid have let go of numerous managers, because of the simple fact that they just weren’t playing good football. With Mourinho proven to be a seasonal winner, despite his rather defensive approach, they might have
a hard time deciding what to do with the manager in the future.
Chelsea have gone on to prove once again, that they are quite possibly the strongest side in the world at the moment. The team has countless strengths and probably no weakness what so ever. The team also has what is quite possibly the best attack down the
left side. The two players who operate on the left flank for the team are Ashley Cole and Florent Malouda. Both the players have an uncanny partnership, that can be described as the best in the world. The players, just happen to know where to be and when to
be there.
Apart from those two players, the other attackers on the side are Didier Drogba and Nickolas Anelka, who are possibly two of the best forwards in the world at the moment. All Chelsea’s opponents can do now, is hope that the team makes a mistake or two, because
if they don’t it is close to impossible to beat them.
Arsenal’s goals keepers have been brought under the microscope over the past, on a number of occasions. Manuel Almunia has also proven, that he is a player who didn’t deserve a second chance this summer. The Spaniard quite easily, was the person to blame
for Arsenal’s loss against West Brom over the weekend. He was however taken out of the side prior to the Champions League match that Arsenal were scheduled to play. Lukasz Fabianski was brought into to fill in to the keeper, however he was expected to be just
as bad as, if not worse than Almunia in goal.
Despite all that pressure on the keepers shoulders, Wenger opted to go ahead and play the Polish keeper either way. Once the game was over all the Arsenal fans were applauding the managers decision to play the young keeper and the keepers performances on
the night. Fabianski, managed to save one penalty and make a number of breathtaking saves that saw Arsenal go on and win a match, which could have gone either way.
Arsenal even risked the chance to get a draw on the night, however some acrobatic saves in the dying few minutes by the keeper, prevented the team from dropping any points on the night. What this means is that Arsenal, might just have a temporary keeper
to fill in for the team, before the January transfer window comes into session.
