Two years back my family and I were at the river, in a cove we were swimming in I spotted a $20 dollar bill and dove for it very quickly and came up just as fast to a HUGE pain in my head! it lasted for the longest time and got worse as we drove down this really long hill. I didn't go the hospital like I should of and now two years later I'm still having some of the affects when I'm sick or just getting done being sick coming down my mountain like my head feels like it's going to exploded......anyways my question is if I did get "the bends" or something like that could I go skydiving and be alright? or would my head pop off?? I'm concerned about now that I want to sky dive. any advice would help thank you:)

  1. Go to a doctor and ask him/ her.

  2. I'm not sure as I've never had the bends, but id put this question in the health category and see if a nurse or a doctor can answer your question. If i was you id go to the hospital, just in case.

    Hope this helps. Good luck

  3. You have an issue with your sinus, that's all. Not the bends. You didn't equalize on that money dive ( sometimes it only takes just 8 feet of water). Your skydiving will be somewhat the same. You'll get the "popping" as you get to altitude and may or may not feel pain on the way down as the ambient air pressure increases. Your rate of decent is slow enough that you may naturally equalize. There is a way to equalize manually that works almost all the time, by pinching your nose and gently blowing with your mouth closed, but I think you'll need to have both hands on the 'chute toggles ( what you steer with) so that may be out of the question. Instead you may just have to resort to the old "yawn technique". Move your jaw like you would in a yawn. That opens up the eustachian tubes connecting your sinus with your ears and throat and helps equalize the pressure difference. It doesn't work for everyone but it's something to try.

Check with an ENT specialist. He may be able to suggest something decongestant wise or discover why your sinus cavities are poor drainers.

  4. The problem is in your sinuses. Actually, compared to water diving, sky diving will be alot easier on you. You desend at a more natural pace so your will adjust. Just go with a tandem instructor, you attatched to them, so that you dont have to worry about your chute.
