In a nutshell: I NEED audio to play in my IMPORTED video clips ON Windows Movie Maker AND Media Player (Sorry for caps, needed to make this clear) so that I can edit WITH the imported sound and post on youtube etc. (Sound IS imported just won't play: why please?)

DETAILS: I have a Pavillion laptop dv6700 with Vista Home Premium. When I import a video the video won't play on my version 11 of Windows Movie Player, nor on my version 6.1 (latest) of Windows Movie Maker. However the sound on imported video clips will play fine on QuickPlayer.

HP told me to dowload the Vista Codecs at freecodecs.com but it messed up the video so I uninstalled. Same thing with the DivX codec. (HP recommended) I uninstalled both and did a system restore and now my video is fine again.

(Previously had a Compaq with Vista Basic and no problems with this).

Also when I edit a video adding sound on Roxio video wave the finished mpeg file will NOT play audio on WMP and therefore will upload on youtube without sound.

This laptop is 1 month old. It came without the proper video driver which I installed. I just installed the audio realtex driver but didn't fix problem.

Any ideas on how to solve the mystery of the missing sound?

Thank you very much!

that way maybe i get a better hang of your issue

    add:

yes, i too suspect missing / corrupt device drivers & maybe codecs too

run a scan, 'PC WIZARD 2008' to determine better
