Importing a home dvd to the computer?

A while ago I had a bunch of homevideos put on to a dvd (had it done at walmart) I want to put them on the computer and edit them down and make copies for a friend.

How do I import/change the file format Can I?

I'v tried and it won't let me open the video in windows movie maker

  2. Have a look at the files on the DVD.

    Are they VOB files?

    Whatever format the files are type that and "convert" into yahoo search

    (e.g. "VOB convert").

    Choose one of the many converters that will appear.
