Question:

Importing a scooter into Canada from the US?

Well the scooter I have fallen for is of course not available in Canada (the Aprilia Mojito Custom). Has anybody imported a US scoot into Canada? It looks complicated but that may just be the wording of what is required from the Transport Canada and Border Services websites (I've read them both up, down and sideways so I dont' need advice on that. Just personal accounts please). Could I ask an Aprilia dealership to import one on my behalf (if I pay for the modifications necessary)? Thanks!

  1. you better look at riv up/down/sideways a bit closer... if it's not already available here, you can't import it. PERIOD

    check the admissibility list

short of that, if it IS on there, I import for a living, it's a cakewalk for me

1 you fax the title or mso to the port you intend to cross through with it at minumum 72 hours ahead of time, at maximum 30 days ahead of time

2 you get a recall check done showing no recalls from the manufacturer, if it's from a dealer, it must show the manufacturer info and the dealer info on the printout WITH contact info

3 you pay $195+gst at the border when you come home with it and the gst on your purchase price, converted for currency change.

4 you go online and pay riv their money and fax or email your customs clearance

5 in 2 or 3 days, they send you an inspection form, you bring it to canadian tire and let them do their silly little useless dance

6 you're done, unless your province has any process for out of province bikes, same as if you'd bought it within canada, but even if it's new, you still have to go through a used inspection
