I'm having an extremely difficult time importing from my sony mini-dv, DRC-HC20, and the computer to which I'm importing into is a mac. I've used the cable that came with the camera and according to the manual it needs an ilink cable?

can anyone attest to this? does it work?

  1. ALL miniDV tape camcorders transfer their video from the tape to a computer using a firewire (i.Link, IEEE1394a- all the same thing) cable. This cable will connect the DV port on the camcorder to the firewire400 port on your Mac. And that is the only port iMovie or FinalCut will recognize importing DV. USB will not work.

You need a 4-pin (camera DV port) to 6-pin (Macintosh firewire port) firewire cable.

You do not have to get a Sony branded i.Link cable.

I use a Sony HDR-HC1 miniDV high definition camcorder and import video to my iMac flatpanel all the time.
