Question:

Importing motorcycle from China to USA?

Based on DOT standards and federal rules about importing a 'vehicle'.....Does anyone know if a new motorcycle from China will be allowed for use on roads in USA.

Also, what taxes, import fees and other costs will be incurred?

(Or who I can call for a consultation about an imported motorcycle?)

I want to buy one in China and ship it by cargo freighter along with some personal furniture back to the USA.

I hope to register the title and ownership in the USA.

  1. You can't get parts for it here, it would be better to buy a brand NOT made in China.... Here's a re post I read recently.

HERE'S ANOTHER SHOP REFUSING TO REPAIR THIS JUNK...SPEND A LITTLE EXTRA AND GET A BIKE THAT ANY DEALER CAN FIX

    ATTENTION!

We are SORRY but Scooter Therapy can no longer repair some mopeds, as they

are made with such poor quality that they cannot be properly repaired.

Some examples are BIG CHIEF, JALON, JBWCO, GEELY, FASHION, MEITIAN, F+J MOTO, GVWR, QUINCI, OMNI, SCORPION,

    DAZON, TANK, SUNDIRO.

WE cannot get parts for these bikes. Scooter Therapy will NOT sell these brands.

This is not a complete list. There are many others. If you have purchased one of

these brands we suggest you get rid of it and buy a quality moped.

    Scooter Therapy Inc.

  2. It has to meet emmision and safety standards. If it did it would propably already be here.

  3. China makes and exports c**p, tortures journalists and suppresses free speech.  They are also a number one producer of greenhouse gas. When you buy their junk, you support their system.

  4. i believe it is a new one.

check emissions and be very careful in international matters.

    and yes, it is possible.

also an advice, u can get it for less amount of money and taxes if u import ir from poor countries like bangladesh or nepal.

  5. It will have to conform to emission standards set for the year model in question and if in California, they are WAY more strict than other states.

  6. pretty much every chinese bike (you are talking about the bikes people buy becuase they can't afford yama or honda right? not saying anything bad i have an allroad cuz i can't afford them either lol) meets ALL 50 states EPA requirements.... bikes such as the dualsports are entirely road legal... even over-legal in some cases (like they have two mirrors, in texas you only need 1 they have front turn signals, which you don't need in all states, etc)

if you pick a bike and are not entirely sure, email me and i'll be glad to help slipknotpsycho5891@yahoo.com

"It has to meet emmision and safety standards. If it did it would propably already be here"

they are here, they're EVERYWHERE... 8 times outta 10 you see a bike/scooter you don't reconize the name to (i.e. not yamaha, honda, kawasaki, ducati, suzuki, HD, etc) it's a chinese bike...

they're made and imported from china.... they aren't just sold exclusively in china... people buy these things by the hundreds at wholesale prices and then resell them outta their garage...

  7. I am not in the US (I am in a better country)

I simply cant see how importing a motorcycle from China could be a worth while exercise.

As others have pointed out.   You will have no local support.  Not even an air cleaner will be available locally.  Motorcycle bits already cost a lot.  Having to then pay international freight plus the wait time will quickly make this a bad experience.

Next will be the need to import spare bits and pieces.  Say for example a break leaver.   Your bike will sit idle for months waiting for its arrival.

In a few years, what happens when time comes to sell it?   I suspect it will have no used value.

For this project to be viable the total initial outlay would have to be just about free. I suspect that in the end rather than a cheap bike it will be a money drain.
