The answer to the clock riddle (I decided not to try the impossible riddle) is that he woke up the same time everyday. It was also a time before alarm clocks; meaning, he wouldn't need to rely on the clock to wake him up at the time he wakes up everyday.

EDIT:

It can't be thunder because thunder IS the loud roar. It doesn't MAKE the loud roar. If anything, it's lightening. Lightening makes a loud roar called thunder. I'm sure no one cares.

That was a good one; I couldn't figure it! (thanks to the word "born", which threw me way off course. I could only think of living beings) I can't think outside the box

Someone else asked this question and most everyone said thunder. I said the Big Bang and got a thumbs down. I'm still sticking with it. Thunder seems too easy.
