A student decides to move a box of books into her dormitory room by pulling on a rope attached to the box. She pulls with a force of 80.0 N at an angle of 25.0° above the horizontal. The box has a mass of 25.0 kg, and the coefficient of kinetic friction between box and floor is 0.300.

(a) Find the acceleration of the box.

and of course....

(b) The student now pulls the moving box up a 10.0° incline, keeping her 80.0 N force directed at 25.0° above the line of the incline. If the coefficient of friction is unchanged, what is the new acceleration of the box?

there is one more question. seperate.

A sled weighing 56.0 N is pulled horizontally across snow so that the coefficient of kinetic friction between sled and snow is 0.100. A penguin weighing 68 N rides on the sled, as in the figure below. If the coefficient of static friction between penguin and sled is 0.700, find the maximum horizontal force that can be exerted on the sled before the penguinbeginsto slideoff.

  1. I'm getting a headache just reading it! Good luck with that one!

  2. never could figure out this kind of questions.

    is the answer 10?

  3. I'm not going to do it out for you, but once you draw out all the vectors for all the existing forces in the right direction, such as weight, normal force, friction, etc, you will see that you will get various right triangles which you can use formulas on to get the answers. Trig may help in nonright triangles. Take the force as the distance of the triangle, as you surely learned vectors. For the second problem, for example, the penguin is pushing straight down, and so is the sled, the sled is pushing against the penguin, and the snow is pushing against both with the same force exerted on it. Draw some lines for the force of the friction and get a couple formulas, then apply what other formulas u know, like sum of all the forces = mass times acceleration, etc to find the answer. Dont ask for the answer.

  4. wowwwww, wish i could help.

  5. im not doing your homework for you

  6. ummm....................................... me go get a nerd

  7. lol! i totally learned how to do this in science last year! it just takes too long to figure it out. and too much work for my brain during the summer. i feel smart :D

  8. jello.....
