Impregnable Saina Nehwal eyes title at the 2011 World Badminton Championships
Saina Nehwal, who is the most celebrated shuttler of India, is all set to take on the challenge of winning the 2011 World Badminton Championships in the presence of Chinese shuttlers, who continue to dominate in the world of badminton.
The Indian is considered as one of the most dynamic players in the Women’s Singles category, as she possesses every skill in her arsenal to chuck out Chinese opponents.
The 21-year-old Saina is currently placed at Number Six spot in the Women’s Singles world rankings, conducted by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). She has the honour of becoming the only female shuttler of India who has won many titles in the Super Series
events, proving that she is ready to shake the boat of China’s dominance in the Women’s Singles category.
Chinese players have dominated the world of badminton for over a decade now, as only a few shuttlers could manage to compete with them. At the moment, Saina is the only shuttler who acts as one of the main contenders for the title in every event she participates
in.
The Hyderabad-born Saina has attained a level of maturity in her game, as she has been playing against all the top shuttlers from China, Indonesia, Denmark, Malaysia and Korea in major events. Through these encounters, Saina has learnt all the necessary
skills to dominate her opponents with considerable ease. She is also regarded as one of the most deceptive and clever players in the world, who quickly reads the game of her challengers.
Saina made her presence felt in 2008, when she became the first Indian female shuttler to clinch the girl’s Singles title at the World Juniors Badminton Championship. After that, she entered into the arena of elite shuttlers of the world and proved her worth
by displaying consistent performances in all international events.
Since the start of 2010, Saina has been playing extraordinary badminton as she grabbed titles in many Super Series tournaments including the Hong Kong Open Super Series, Singapore Open and Indonesia Open. She has been beating top Chinese shuttlers with regular
intervals, indicating her class in the game.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Saina, has grown to be one of the most authoritative and talented shuttler, who always puts up a good show against Chinese players in key matches. China has many top players in the Women’s Singles category and
there are many Chinese shuttlers who usually reach the semi-finals and finals of all major tournaments.
Saina is expected to be one of the major contenders for the Women’s Singles title at the 2011 World Badminton Championships, which will take place from August 8-14, in London, England. Saina is preparing well in her training sessions under the supervision
of Pullela Gopichand, who is a former All England Open winner and also the current national coach of India.
In the last two editions of the World Championships, Saina failed to cross the quarter-final stages, however, this time the Indian is ready to take up the challenge of performing well in the event. She will be competing against top shuttlers from China including
Wang Shixian, Wang Yihan and Wang Xin, who are the World Number One, Two and Three, respectively.
