My doctor told me that my next appointment in the next four weeks he's going to take impressions for my teeth. The part i do not get is that he said we're going to still keep the braces on until another 2-3 weeks after because we need to get your retainer

can somebody please explain what he's trying to say please =(

  1. he's saying that he can't take your braces off until your retainer is ready because otherwise your teeth would move around and you would have to keep your braces on for longer. it takes a little while to get the retainer made after the impression of your teeth is taken because they have to make a special retainer for your mouth.

    hope i could help!

  2. well, wen u have a brace and get it off impressions of your teeth (just like a mould of them) need to  be done so that the retainer is able to be made in the lab to fit ur teeth. Really, the brace should be took off and the impressions made and within a couple of hours the retainer should be made,, also the impressions shouldnt be made with the brace on. Maybe he meant 2-3 hours, not weeks, because i went at 1, and went bak at 3.30 to pick up my retainer:|, if it does take 2-3 weeks its so tht ur teeth dnt move bakk to the way they used to be :D

gd luck,, hope ur teeth look fab

  3. I'm 95% sure that impressions are just like getting the molds of your teeth (how they are now), so that they can make the retainer for you, get it? It takes a few weeks to make the retainer, and they need the mold of your teeth make sure it fits. I just got my braces off a few months ago, so I understand what you mean when you don't understand what they're talking about.

  4. they make the impressions to make it easier to know what they have to do to your teeth. i just went through this. they make the impressions so they can see how tight etc. they have to make the retainer.
