Impressive Houston Texans lead AP Pro32 Power Rankings for fourth week – NFL News
Thanks to the superb start to the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season by first-time Super Bowl contenders Houston Texans, they are at the top of the Associated Press’ Pro32 Power Rankings which is determined on the votes of 12 leading writers who
closely follow developments in the professional league.
It is not just win of the top spot but maintaining it is the most difficult point of the power ranking chart which the Texans have done for four consecutive weeks. Their win over the Denver Broncos has particularly been noted to be an impressive point of
their performance this year.
The Texans have come on the field in contention for the Super Bowl title and so far managed well. They have won all their three games of the season to stay atop American Football Conference (AFC) South division. They are reigning champions of the division.
Although the Texans were rated to be a far better team now, their level of success is rather a surprise for many commentators, particularly their victory over far more competitive side of the Broncos has baffled some of them.
The special strength – in addition to the offence leader Matt Schaub – that the team has relied upon for the wins is running back’s game. Running back Arian Foster along with receiver Andre Johnson and QB Schaub has increased the tempo of the rushing game,
while keeping possession of the ball as much as they can, leaving little room for the opposition to accelerate.
The high-paced rushing game was a surprise for Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning but the Texan knew beforehand this was the only way to stop the veteran. So the strategy is to try to possess the ball most of the time to avoid giving any opportunity to the
players like Manning.
So far everything seems to have gone the Texans’ way and if they continue perform at the same level there is a greater possibility that they reach the Super Bowl title game and may well be victorious.
