Impressive Minnesota Vikings look to dominate Washington Redskins – NFL Preview
Minnesota Vikings are having a very good season this year, and with the performance they are giving at present, it seems that securing a playoff berth will not be a daunting task for them.
On the other hand, Washington Redskins are surrounded by a few issues. Their prime quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3), the second overall pick in this year’s draft, suffered a mild concussion in their last game and is in recovery process.
Moreover, Redskins have lost their last eight home games and are desperate to end the losing streak.
Adding to their worries in the fact that they are placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) East after losing three of their five games this season.
Redskins and Vikings are going to face each other on Sunday, October 14, at FedEx Field.
The main concern for Redskins is recovery of RG3. As per the recent reports, the quarterback participated in complete practice on Friday and head coach Mike Shanahan was also satisfied with the recovery progress.
However, the player will be continuously monitored before getting clearance to play.
Meanwhile, RG3 has also realised his mistake that led to the hit on his hit. He has been instructed to rely more on passing game and protect himself rather than running with the ball, making himself open to hits. The hit seems to be a great lesson for the
rookie.
Redskins defence has also not been able to support the offence this season and the game against Vikings will be a tough test for the defence.
Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said of the game:
“This is going to be one of those four-hour games that you’ve got to fight all day. They’ll break about three or four [plays] open in the fourth quarter and then all of a sudden at the end of the day you think you did a good job and they’ve got 200 rushing
on you.”
Vikings are surprisingly leading NFC North. The reason behind the success is their super performance and some below average shows from Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.
At present, Vikings are on a three-game winning streak. The recent victories came against San Francisco 49ers (in Week 3), Detroit Lions (in Week 4) and Tennessee Titans (in Week 5).
Vikings are preparing hard to get their fourth straight victory and the coaches have been particularly monitoring performance of RG3 so they can devise a strategy to prevent him from providing scoring moves, if he plays.
Vikings defensive coordinator Alan Williams said of RG3:
“There are plays where he scrambles, not necessarily scrambles to run, but scrambles and gets loose and throws the ball over the top of the defence.”
He added:
“It’s going to be a big, big challenge to stop the team."
