Impressive Performance From Dutch Side in Euro Hockey League
This weekend gave a start to Euro Hockey League. Round 1.1 of this great event is taking place at Eindhoven’s HC Oranje Zwart. The host club has planned to include 12 of the Europe’s greatest club teams. The aim is to qualify for the Knock-out rounds of
the tournament which starts at the time of Easter. Within two weeks, Spain’s Athletic Terrassa HC will be hosting Round 1.2 including 12 more teams.
It was a high scoring day at EHL Round 1.1 as the host club and three other major clubs that is Club de Campo, UHC Hamburg, HGC (NED) all claimed great victories to qualify and secure their places for next Easter’s exciting event. Club de Campo and UHC played
impressively but the Dutch teams showed really spectacular performances. HGC scored nine times against Olimpia Kolos Sekovoia. OZ performed better by hitting ten against KS Pomorzanin Torun.
Club de Campo marked their entry in EHL with 6-3 victory against RC Bruxelles. This victory secured their way through to Easter’s tournament KO16 and German club champions Rot-Weiss Koln will join them in this tournament. Racing played impressively and took
a lead. Here Lucas de Mot received a pass and clinically finished the strike. A 3-1 half time lead for Spanish side was made by three eye catching strikes by Willy Schickendantz, Edi Tubau and Cesar Sauquillo. Club de Campo dragged their lead to five with
two goals further from Juan Fernandez and Schickendantz respectively. The deficit on the other side was decreased by Tom Boon and Thery Bourgoignie but Koke Rodriguez killed the game by making a sixth score for Cluc de Campo. This club thus confirmed a safe
way through to the Knock-out Round at the first attempt. The decision that which team will occupy the important top spot in the pool will be made when Club de Campo will play against Rot-Weiss Koln.
Oli Markowski, the Club de Campo’s Germany International said, “It was really important for us to win that match as it means that we have qualified for the next Round”.
Izmaylovo was defeated by Champions UHC, so UHC qualified for the KO16 event at the first attempt. All of the three players Patrick Breitenstein, Oliver Korn and Marco Miltkau scored two goals to achieve a 6-0 victory for current Euro Hockey League Champions
UHC Hamburg over Izmaylovo Moscow thus Izmaylovo’s dream of reaching Knock-out rounds has ended whereas KHC Dragons and UHC Hamburg have made it into Easter’s KO16 event. For the decision for top spot in Pool E, UHC and KHC will face each other on Sunday.
HGC’s return to Euro Hockey League was a brilliant one, as Sekvoia was swept aside by them. They defeated Sekvoia by 9-2 and confirmed their place in KO16 event. Rodrigo and Lucas Vila were injured, even then were stunning as they overcame Sekvoia and made
a display of amazing hockey. Both HGC and Pembroke Wanderers have reached the KO16 tournament but the decision for the top position for Pool F will be made tomorrow between both of these. It is clear that Olimpia Kolos Sekvoia is no longer a part of Euro Hockey
League this time.
Host Club Oranje Zwart crushed Poland’s KS Pomorzanin Torun by 10-1 win and delighted the home crowd by this amazing performance of attacking hockey. Lucas Judge made four scores for his club. This awesome play secured their place at KO16 in a single attempt.
However, they have to face Dinamo Kazan to highlight their status as winners of Pool H.
Former Dutch international Jeroen Delmee said that the score sheet could have been much longer. He further said,
“I thought we played a really good match today, and it was only down to their goalkeeper that we didn’t score many more goals as it could have been a monster score. It was important game for us with Rob Hammond coming back [from the Commonwealth Games],
and we were very strong.”
