Impressive victories for Audi Azzurra Sailing Team on final day: 2011 Region of Sardinia Trophy
Local heroes, Audi Azzurra Sailing Team were quite impressive on Sunday, July 24 at the Gulf of Cagliari in Sardinia, as they grabbed a second and a first place in the final day’s races. With these two places, Audi Azzurra Sailing Team has replaced America’s
Quantum Racing on second place in the standings of 2011 Sardinia Region Trophy.
Audi Azzurra were under a lot of pressure during the initial races of the event, as they were rattled by the Cagliari weather. The wavering windy conditions were not what the team had expected from the Gulf of Cagliari, as they were wobbled by the Cagliari
Mistral, blowing up to 25 knots. However, the team coped with the conditions brilliantly on the final day to finish the day on a high.
Although Audi Sailing Team Powered by All4One grabbed the top spot, Audi Azzurra strategist Vasco Vascotto and tactician Francesco Bruni are quite happy with their crew’s performance in the regatta. They believe that a victory on the final day will be helpful
in the upcoming regattas of 2011 Audi MedCup Circuit.
While speaking to the local reporters, Vascotto said, “We did a great job and showed ourselves and everyone else that we are a strong, united crew. When things get tough those who are not united keep going down but we picked ourselves up and made an incredible
comeback and that's the most important thing.”
He added, “Paradoxically the key moment was two days ago when we finished fifth even though we had made no mistakes. It would have been easy to lose faith in ourselves but instead we came even closer together, convinced that things could only change, and
change they did!”
