Question:

Improving car audio quality?

I have '93 Ford Ranger and I would like to upgrade the sound system. So, I was wondering what would be the most important part to replace to get better sound quality. Right now the sound system is factory stuff, so nothing has been changed or updated.

The factory audio equipment is an am/fm tape deck and (what I assume) are not-so-great speakers. The tape deck works fine for me since I like being able to listen to tapes and use a tape deck adapter to plug in my mp3 player, only problem is that it has a very bass heavy tone when I do so.

So, my main question is: Would putting in new speakers improve the sound quality enough that the sound would be balanced when I use my mp3 player or do I have to upgrade my main audio device also? I don't want to crank my music up so loud that I rattle the car, I just want to improve the sound quality without spending too much money.

Thanks for your time!

  1. Upgrading to a new set of door speakers is an excellent way to improve the overall sound & for relatively cheap.

Even your factory head unit should have the basic EQ(treble, bass, mid). If not, you can find a descent head unit for cheap that has advanced EQ controls, however I assume you would have to buy a new mp3 adapter. Or find one with an AUX jack. Good luck!
