Improving programming skill?

I am taking my computer science I course this fall, and I was wondering if you guys had any advice on improving programming skill?

I know this sounds very generic but all you need to do is practice.  I remember starting my computer courses and thinking "Oh yeah, you just need to do coding at school, home time is me time."  It turns out, practicing your programming skills(I do it daily) can reeeeally help.

You'll start noticing syntax patterns and methods to solving problems.  Also, it doesn't hurt to read up on online tutorials.  Computer science student's best friend is Google.
