  1. Ive been playing on and off for 12 years. Yes of course getting a higher quality type of strings and bow would do it. It does make a difference. But what makes the most difference is the TYPE of violin and how it was made. Which is something you cannot change, unless you go out and get a whole new one.

  2. Yes, of course;  it makes a great deal of difference.  The more you can upgrade, the better off you will be with respect to the sound.  Practicing under the supervision of a good teacher is key, however;  no purchase of books or equipment will buy you the sound you want;  you have to earn it.

  3. Buying better bows and strings does make a difference to your sound. Some violinists change their strings once every 6 months. Others will change strings during the summer so they can get used to the new strings when there are fewer concerts and competitions.

It's not so much as buying the most expensive bow as it is buying the best bow that will work with your style of playing and strings. Some people like a bow that responds quickly, but may have to find a way to deal with its harshness. Others like a smooth sound, but will have to work harder playing staccato.
