Tiger Pataudi, as he was called, was the ninth nawab of the princely state of Pataudi. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium pacer. He started playing cricket in school before making his first-class debut for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 in 1957 at the age of 16 years.
The batting prodigy met a car accident in July 1961 which permanently damaged his right eye and there had been speculations that Tiger Pataudi’s cricketing career had reached an impasse. He went on to play 46 Tests, compiling 2793 runs at an impressive average of 34.91. In first-class cricket the legendary India all-rounder scored a tally of 15425 runs at an average of 33.67 from 310 appearances.
Imran Khan was all praise for the former Indian skipper despite his losing vision in one eye.
“..if Mansoor Ali Khan had not lost vision in one eye, he would have broken all the records. The quality of strokes he could play with one eye, mere mortals cannot play…" said Imran Khan who played 88 Tests and 175 One Day Internationals for Pakistan.
