Imran Nazir: Made in Pakistan Dynamite
Pakistan have produced many great names in the past in the game of cricket though it is not Pakistan’s national game. Out of these names, some were magnificent batsmen, like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Inzamam-ul-Haq-c64383 and Mohammad Yousaf,
while other were history making fast bowlers like Sarfaraz Nawaz, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Akhtar-c90080.
However, with the passage of time the techniques and tactics of the game have changed with the addition of technology, the gentlemen game became the game of power hitters, since it is faster than the past and demands more fitness and stamina.
On 16 December, 1981, a lad was born in the city of pugilists Gujranwala in Pakistan. He should have been a wrestler after being grown up by tradition but his physique did not match their tradition so he decided to choose the gentlemen’s game as his profession,
which afterwards became his passion as well. Now the people know him as a perfect hard-hitting batsman. Yes, I am talking about http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Nazir-c64248 “the made in Pakistan dynamite”.
He is an explosive opening batsman who made his One Day International (ODI) debut as a specialist hard-hitting opening batsman against Sri Lanka on 27 March, 1999 at Visakhapatnam. Since then he has played 79 ODIs for Pakistan and scored 1,895 runs in 79
innings at an average of 24.61 which does not look very impressive but the strike rate is eye-catching, which is 81.01.
He smashed only two hundreds and nine fifties with the highest score of 160 while remained unbeaten in a couple of innings. He has played limited overs cricket and Test cricket from the following major teams.
Pakistan, Asia XI, ICL Pakistan XI, Lahore Badshahs, National Bank of Pakistan, North West Frontier Province Panthers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842 Stallions, Water and Power Development Authority,
Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Nazir is one those batsmen who has no fear whatsoever but with less patience. He is a restless opening batsman who does not wait for the loose ball and try to hit everything out of the park. He has a wide range of shots with expertise in cut and pull
shots.
If we compare him with any of the explosive batsmen in the world like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 who just come to the wicket and without wasting time go for everything, he is not an inch
behind the line of their calibre but the fact is that he has not been given proper environment and chance to improve his game accordingly.
Imran has not been seen playing regularly forPakistan since he made his ODI debut. On and off he can be seen in the team otherwise he remains off the field. The reason behind it is that the Pakistan Cricket Board and selection committee do not have trust
in him due to his impatient nature.
However, if proper training and coaching is provided to him then he can easily be a match winning player for Pakistan. He should be provided with a psychiatrist who can work on his temperament and a batting coach who can work on his defence.
Moreover, he should be given a permanent place in Pakistan team as an opener, no matter if he goes without scoring in first 2 or three matches but if he will have the selectors’ and Captain’s confidence then he will definitely be a nightmare for any opposition.
Nazir had a very short career in longer format of the game but he has shown his batting skills there too. He made his Test debut on 4 March, 1999 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Lahore and since then he has played only eight matches and scored 427 runs in 13 innings
at an average of 32.84. He smashed two hundreds and a fifty with the highest score of 131.
The crushing opening batsman still has 10 to 15 years to offer Pakistan, if and only if he is given proper attention and coaching.
