Imran Shahzad whitewashes Sohail Shahzad in final – 2011 NBP National Ranking Championship
Former Pakistan Champion Imran Shahzad won the 2011 National Bank of Punjab Ranking Championship as he whitewashed Sohail Shahzad by a frame score of 8-0 in a best-of-fifteen frames final match on Wednesday, July 27, 2011.
The 3rd NBP Ranking Championship was being held at the Amir Bakhsh Billiards Hall of Karachi Club, Karachi, Pakistan.
It was a dominant performance from Imran Shahzad of Lahore, Punjab as he showcased magnificent breaks of 46, 38, 43 and 53 to register an impressive win over his opponent. However for Sohail, who previously outclassed Abdul Sattar, it was a nightmare as
he could not register himself even in a single frame.
The overall score-line between both players was 92-24, 55-11, 74-10, 68-10, 62-4, 59-36, 54-37 and 65-28.
In the opening frame, both players were seen toiling with their rhythm but in the end it was the experienced Imran Shahzad who came on top to draw the first blood 1-0. There was a similar story in the following second frame and Imran further increased his
lead by 2-0.
In the third frame, Imran missed an easy blue off the spot giving Sohail a golden opportunity but he was lucky to get back on the table as Sohail failed to punish him. Imran then quickly stepped in and made no more mistakes. He knocked in a modest break
of 46 and went ahead by 3-0.
Imran also took the following fourth, fifth and sixth frames with the runs of 38, 43 and 53 respectively to make the score-line 6-0.
The seventh frame before the interval was a bit cagey. A bout of safety play was seen between the players. It was again Imran in the end who pocketed the frame to leave his opponent down by seven frames with eight to play.
Upon resuming the match, Sohail was the first one to be among the balls. He tried his best to win but the snooker did not come for him and Imran won the match without doing anything outstanding.
Imran Shahzad also regained his number one spot back in the rankings with the win.
