Imran Tahir helps http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 for 222 - ICC World Cup 2011
West Indies blew away their chances of posting a decent total against South Africa in their opening match of the ICC World Cup 2011 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780. The Windies were all-out for 222 in the 48th over.
There was some uncertainty about the nature of the wicket, which forced the Proteas captain Graeme Smith to field first after winning the toss. The wicket was slow and there was some inconsistent bounce in it. The Caribbean Kings started their innings with
Chris Gayle and Devon Smith. However, the start to the innings wasn’t ideal for them, as Gayle was dismissed in the very first over of the match.
The flamboyant batsman was only able to add 2 runs off 3 balls to the total. The fall of his wicket brought promising Darren Bravo to the crease. Bravo played exceptionally and struck some beautiful boundaries. On the other hand, Smith continued to rotate
the strike over and this kept the scoreboard ticking nicely. Both Bravo and Smith put together a 111-run partnership for the second wicket and took their team’s total to 113 in 23 overs.
However, Bravo wasn’t able to score a century on his World Cup debut. He did the damage though by providing a solid platform to the middle-order. The youngster scored 73 runs off 82 balls before being dismissed. Soon after the dismissal of Bravo, Smith and
Ramnaresh Sarwan departed for 36 and two runs respectively. Smith would have been disappointed about the manner in which he got out, as he was well set and should have anchored the innings.
Windies were in deep trouble at one stage with four wickets down for just 120 runs. However, Dwayne Bravo and Shivnaraine Chanderpaul rescued their team with a 58-run stand for the fifth wicket. The elder Bravo was lucky early on in his innings, as he was
dropped by Imran Tahir on one run. However, he wasn’t lucky the second time when he was run-out for a well made 40 off 37 balls.
Chanderpaul took the team’s total over 200, but he failed to bat out the complete 50 overs, and threw his wicket away with a needless shot. He managed only 21 runs from 51 balls.
