South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir is confident that he is ready to feature in the Proteas’ clash with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, in the first Test of a 3-match series, due to kick off on July 19 at the Kennington Oval in London.
"I'm confident when my time comes; I'm really up for it," Tahir said. "I've played one game at The Oval, and it turns a lot - especially in the second innings - so I'm looking forward to it."
Tahir, the only spinner to feature in the Proteas' bowling attack amongst a bevy of fast bowlers such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780. He
has played 7 Test matches for the national side, during which he has claimed a total of 18 wickets, at an average of 37.05.
Tahir has also played with 4 County clubs, namely http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 – experiences which are bound to serve him well against the Poms.
Although his Test career has failed to take off as expected, the 33-year-old has been dubbed a bowler who “plays a big role in the South African side,” according to South African A coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vincent-Alexander-Barnes-c95319.
The Proteas’ head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527 has also identified Tahir as a "bowler who can perform different roles," and the spinner is looking forward to using his variations against the English batsmen on a track that is expected to offer a fair amount of turn.
"I've got the variations, but it depends on how I use them," he said. "They are good players, so I need to wait for the right time, and I hope I'll get a reward for that. It's going to be a good challenge for me."
His most recent performances during the team’s warm-up matches prior to the tour are promising – Tahir claimed 4 for 31 on the first day of the 3-day warm-up match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 dismissed their opponents for 210.
The Proteas will be hoping to carry the same momentum into the main Test series, and Tahir will be looking to add to his tally as the team attempt to snatch the top spot on the ICC’s Test team rankings from England.
