Imran Tahir not to feature in third Test against India
Pakistan-based leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Tahir will not be a part of the South African squad for the final Test against India at Cape Town beginning on Sunday.
There were speculations that he may make it to the playing XI for the third Test as the wicket in Newlands suits spinners.
Andrew Hudson, the convenor for the Cricket South Africa confirmed that Tahir will not be included in the squad for the final match but he may be considered for the ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
Hudson believes that it will not be a fair thing to add him to the playing eleven for the final Test match but he will definitely be considered in the future. He stated, “That will not be fair on anyone since the squad has prepared, but he will be considered for the one-dayers.”
Tahir has been granted the citizenship of South Africa and the International Cricket Council has given him a green signal to represent his newly adopted country. He has fulfilled all the necessary requirements to play for Proteas.
The 31-year-old leg-spinner represents Nashua Dolphins in the domestic circuit of South Africa. He has also played in English county as well as for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s domestic teams. In his first-class career, he has played 127 matches and taken 535 wickets at an impressive average of 25.09.
He was selected for the South African team in January 2010 for the English tour but was unable to represent the team due to residency paperwork issues.
Tahir has now fulfilled all the requirements and the CEO of Cricket South Africa Gerald Majola said, “He has been a leading wicket taker in the top South African domestic competitions for the past few seasons and is highly respected by both his colleagues and his opponents. He certainly becomes a contender for selection to the Proteas squad now that he has met all the Government, ICC and CSA regulations regarding his new nationality.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 does not have a history of producing world-class spinners and the role of a spinner has always been defensive rather than attacking. The inclusion of Tahir to the South African squad can be a welcome change to their line of attack.
