Imran Tahir to play for South Africa A – Cricket News Update
Pakistani born South African spinner, Imran Tahir, has been named as part of the Proteas’ A squad which will take on Sri Lanka A next month.
The leg-spinner has been included in a bid to attain match practice ahead of the all-important Test series against England, where both sides will compete for the no.1 ranked Test status, currently held by the Poms.
The first un-official Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 takes place at Durban from June 30 and will be followed by the second, same venue, from July 6. The bouts will help Tahir to get much needed competitive action as he is not part of the One-day side.
The 33-year-old last played for the national team in the away Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Qadir-c41605, who said that Tahir’s threat will offer plenty of problems for the no.1 ranked Poms.
“If conditions in England remain dry and there is less rain then I am sure Tahir will be very handy against England,” Qadir said last month.
The other notable names to make the squad include http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WD-Parnell-c2787, all of whom played recently for the national team.
Earlier, the Proteas’ side took part in an unofficial T20 series at Zimbabwe, which included the hosts and touring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 inflicted a 9-wicket beating.

As for the Lankan A side, they already had a taste of the conditions after playing domestic side Dolphin in a drawn warm-up match.
