Imran is the front-line spinner and we back him, says Graeme http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 – Cricket News Update
After criticism on an average bowling display by the Proteas in the opening Test against Australia in Brisbane, the non-native spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 as their front-line bowler for inclusion in the starting XI
for the Adelaide Test.
The statement came from Smith while he was talking to the media prior to the 2nd Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. The track at Adelaide is expected to deteriorate in the latter part of the game with “hot and sunny” weather forecasts and the Proteas selectors
are willing to change their bowling attack slightly by a spinner's inclusion.
"Hopefully there is a lot of rough for the Aussie left-handers, Imran has used rough well in the time that he has played for us. He created a lot of stress for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and his wrong'un is also a good option," said skipper
Smith.
Despite statements from former player http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Peterson-c2332, his inclusion in the side did not materialise in light of his defensive approach.
Referring to the past, when the side did not have an attacking spinner and were thought incapable of producing one, Smith stood out as the strongest supporter of Tahir. Giving the 33-year-old credit for making the South African attack more potent than ever,
the skipper gave immense importance to Tahir's role.
"Naturally, he'll be anxious to do well, always. But he has contributed in key ways for us over the last few Test matches and his role is important. He understands that not every surface that we have played on has offered him the world but he been able to
contribute," added Smith.
The ongoing tour is undoubtedly one of the toughest tests the top ranked Test team has faced in the recent past. If they come out strong from this series, they will have a great chance to retain the top spot for a good period of time.
