In 1700's for example, how did they draw maps with the shape of countries as there was no form or airal views!

there where no forms of air travel, baloon, flight, nothing, so how could they draw world maps with the shapes of the countries!?!?

  1. they used compasses to see which way the coast line lay , taking a new reading at every turn


  2. Unlike the youth of today, people of bygone eras were clever. They applied their inginuity, and employed techniques such as trigonometry, and used a sextant to use the stars to find the latitude of locations.

  3. They did it by ship, sailing round the coastline,  the maps they drew were not always accurate and many ships ran aground
