  1. If you listen to Zionist prpaganda, it was desert, but there are very respectable people who'd say otherwise.  For example, the late editor of United Church Observer in Canada, A. C. Forrest wrote a book called The Unholy Land.  On the basis of his research Israelis are lying.  It is true that they have made improvements, and keep in mind, too, the billions of American tax payers money that they receive annually and the modern technology at their disposal.  Of course, with the control of media by them , Israeli propaganda is what you are going to come across in mainstream media.  And I hope this answer will not disappear from Yahoo answers!

  2. Palestinian farms are bulldozed by Israeli troops

  3. Desert

  4. The Palestine region was the first place where human civilization practiced agriculture some 10,000 years ago. And for a very good reason: The area is extremely fertile.

Agriculture in that part of the world is a science, it's an art, it's part of everyday life.

By the 1930's and 40's Palestine became one of the largest exporters of citrus fruits to Europe.

My family owns 1200 acres of land in that area, nearby Ramallah, and besides olives we grow apples and figs.

Agriculture has always been plentiful in Palestine. I'd suggest to you that every time you meet a Palestinian ask them if they have a garden.

I bet that most of them will lead you to their backyard and proudly show you what they've been planting and some of the techniques used for it.

But, of course, if you want to take away our land and our homes you can always argue what a bunch of lazy ignorants we are and how our lands is just desert.

As if for thousand of years all we Palestinians have been doing to survive is eat dirt.

  5. It depends.

A common misconception about the Middle East is that it's all desert. This is, quite simply, pure ignorance. Many parts of the Middle East, the Levant in particular, is excellent for growing crops. In 1947, Palestine was (and for the most part, still is) fertile. However, it must be pointed out that over the past two millenias, the Middle East has been drying up. Palestine during the time of Christ would've been much, much greener than it is today.

I also must point out the following:

While Palestine was extremely fertile, it was largely undeveloped due to the feudalistic Ottoman Land Code, which taxed the Palestinians so badly they were prevented from ever developing their own land or gaining access to modern tools or farming techniques. Often, Zionists will argue that Israelies were responsible for turning Palestine from malarial swamps into rolling farmland, something the "indolent" Palestinians never did (conveniently leaving out the fact that Palestinians were never given the chance). Ironicaly, the Palestinian farming situation hasn't changed much since the time of the Ottomans. While many (but not all) Palestinians have small vegtable gardens and fruit trees, the Israelies have a monopoly on all major farming industries. While Palestians work on these farms, the benefits are minimal, not unlike the feudal system under the Ottoman rule (part of the reason so many Palestians own gardens- to keep from being dependent on produce from Israeli owned farms).

  6. It was much bigger because Israel is constantly expanding

See the creeping expansion of Israel below, this is the main cause of world terrorism.

The biggest nonsense on this subject is "Israel made the desert bloom", Israel takes 95% of the water available in the area , the desert is fertile really and only needs water.
