I remember Tescos from that era, and it was quite downmarket. Also, International Stores, Mace, Co-op, Spar.

I thought some shops stayed open till 6pm, but can't remember which.

  1. there wouldn't have been supermarkets like today, there was more small convience stores, and you would have to go to seperate bakers butchers green groccers.  They would vary on there opening hours due to their areas, most would have been mon - fri 9 -5 saturdays half day and closed on sundays

  2. Closed on Sunday.

    Half day Wednesday

    9-5 on other days.

Funny to remember those innocent days, not much variety of  stock on the shelves and lots less advertising.

  3. I worked in a supermarket in the UK in 1968 and the hours were 9-5 Monday - Thursday and Saturday with late night shopping till 8pm on Fridays, closed on Sunday.

  4. 10 am

  5. I'd say from memory..Monday to Saturday 8.30a.m. to 5.30 p.m.  Closed on the Sabbath.  U.K.
