  1. There were two very important acts in 1965. The Voting rights act and the Immigration act. The voting rights act was in answer to states which allowed a system of discrimination to undermine the 15th amendment. Especially related to African-Americans of the time. The Immigration Act removed nationality quotas for immigration policy. This allowed people who would normally have to wait because of the number of others of the same nationality wishing to immigrate. There was a profound effect on the increased number of Asian people  after this act.

  2. U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson proclaims his "Great Society" during his State of the Union Address and it made America a great nation.

  3. The US quit putting silver in dimes and quarters in 1965, hence making them intrinsically worthless. They also dropped the silver content in half dollars to 40%.

  4. two really slimy liberal type programs came into law...both we could have done without considering the amount of treasure, both blood and coin, expended on them over the years

  5. There were at least two landmark governmental acts in the U.S. in 1965, one being the Social Security Act of 1965, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 30, which established Medicare and Medicaid.

The other was the National Voting Rights Act of 1965, which outlawed the requirement that would-be voters in the United States take literary tests to qualify to register to vote. These literacy tests had previously been used to prevent minority voting, especially by African-Americans. The National Voting Rights Act is largely viewed as a landmark in Civil Rights legislation.
