Question:

In 8-Ball (Pool), what happens if a player sinks the 8 ball and an opponents ball on their last shot?

Assume the player did call the correct pocket for the 8-ball, hit the 8-ball before the opponent's ball, and did not scratch on the shot.

I can't find the rule for this because it says it is an automatic loss if a foul is committed when sinking the 8-ball, but it does not mention if hitting an opponents ball after hitting the proper ball is a foul or not.

  1. The person that sunk the 8-ball wins. I have the rules and they are online. (Unless it was the opponents last ball then the person that sunk the 8-ball loses)

    Hope that helps

  2. You win.

  3. It's a foul and a loss.  I've never seen it happen, but that's what I've been told by other players with way more experience that I have.

  4. Here in Texas you would win, and get your free beer! and hopefully go on to win many more.

  5. In my experience, it matters which went in first: the 8 or the opponent's ball.....if it's the 8, then i think it's fine....

  6. This may sound like a cheap answer, but it depends on what set of rules you are playing.

In APA League, BCA League, common tournament rules, etc., the only stipulations are that you contacted the 8-ball first, made the 8-ball in the pocket you called, and didn't scratch or jump the cue ball off the table.  It doesn't matter if the 8-ball touched an opponent's ball, an opponent's ball went in, none of that stuff.  House rules for different locations regularly vary though.  At some pool halls they may play that the 8-ball can't hit an opponent's ball.

  7. I would say the answer has been established.  You win.  No foul unless you contacted the opponents ball first.  As long as you contact your object ball first and make the shot in the desired manner and pocket you win.

  8. Listen to Johnny on this one people. As long as you hit the 8 ball first and you don't scratch it's a win. It doesn't matter which ball goes in first it's a win. It doesn't matter what else happens it's a win. If your playing under some kinda rules where it's not a win you'd be a lot better off not playing at all!

  9. johnny this is one of those whose rules question.  in whitehorse yukon they called it a foul if knock an oppentent ball in after clean shot on 8... i called bs but everyone there backed up these guys.  only time i ever seem it called and no one though seems to back it up but could be a local thing on us alaskan (they hate us in western canada )

  10. If the 8 ball fell on a legal shot before the cue ball made the opponents ball in then it would not be a foul.

  11. Seriously, some of you people need to actually read the rules instead of using the rules your granddaddy or some drunk guy at the bar taught you.

As long as you contact one of your balls (or in this case the 8 ball) first and do not scratch, it is never ever ever ever ever a foul to pocket your opponent's ball. There is no legitimate set of 8 ball rules anywhere that say otherwise.

I suggest everyone on this post who said it is a loss to go to the link below and READ the rules. I suggest you do too Brian, but I do not fault you for not knowing. But nobody should be trying to pass off their made up rules as correct if they've never actually bothered to learn to play correctly.

  12. http://www.8ball.org/rules_8ball.htm

You Win...it is not a foul as long as u made a clean hit on the 8ball...meaning that it was the first ball the cue made contack with...

  13. as a 8-ball player myself (11 years exp) it is a foul and loss of game

  14. You win if you call the pocket hit the 8 first and make it .The cue ball stays on the table you win

The cue could go on to clear the table of the remaining balls it would not matter. All that counts is the legal shot on the 8
