  1. It is a foul. For a shot to be legal, the cue ball must contact an object ball of the shooter's group (stripes or solids) first and then a ball must be pocketed or contact a rail.

  2. No scratch but it is a foul.

If you are trying a one, two or three-cushion kick shot and make contact with your ball... your ball or the cue ball or any other ball must make contact with a cushion or your ball must be pocketed before it is a legal shot.

Just hitting your ball isn't enough. Ball-in-hand to your opponent.

  3. No. It is not a "scratch" if the cue ball does not strike any balls, but is IS a FOUL.

As Tim said, the cue ball MUST make contact with the object ball and THEN, a ball must be pocketed, or ANY ball (it may be the cue ball) MUST contact a rail for the shot to be legal.

No matter how many rails the cue ball contacts; it means nothing ---and is a FOUL if you fail to hit the object ball and then either pocket a ball or contact a rail with ANY ball, AFTER you initially strike the cue ball and then IT makes contact with an object ball.

    Good luck, pool player -
