Can you pocket a ball of one suit by hitting the cue ball into the opposite suit to pocket the intended ball?

In other words, if the table is open can you use other balls in combination if you call that ball.

I believe the IPT rules allow it.

  1. When the table is open you can shoot any combination of balls , stripes and solids , that you want to. The only ball you cannot hit first is the 8 ball. That would be a foul ,cue ball in hand for your opponent.

  2. Yes you can!!!! As long as you call the ball your trying to pocket off the kiss of the other ball.

  3. EB Got it  well so did the others but the 8 is the only ball you cant on an open table as long as you call your ball and pocket-1st shot only

  4. There are some leagues or rules that the 8 ball is neutral, but not in most.  You can always use the 8 ball in a combination as long as its not the first ball contacted.  Other wise, yes you can play a solid to make a stripe or visa versa on an open table.

  5. that is going to depend on what rules you play by.  me personaly I say yes its fine as long as you call it.

  6. Join the APA pool league in your area. They have 250,000 active amateur pool players Nationwide, including Canada and Japan. Their web site has a complete set of rules for 8-ball and 9-ball that are used consistently wherever you play APA pool. The site can also tell you where a league is in your area.

  7. Yes, that's allowed.

  8. if you nominate a colour it is a foul...an open table which you had is ok...the shot was ok
