  1. No to both in those 2

but a scratch off the eight does not always lose

  2. You always lose on a scratch on the 8 ball. If you are asking if you hit your ball first and call the combo and the pocket to sink the 8 ball then you win, under some rules.

  3. If you scratch on the eight you lose no matter which ball goes in first. You can not combo in the eight ball with any object ball. The 8 ball must be pocketed by itself after you have already made all of your stripes or solids , whichever you were shooting. Like I always say though, check the rules before you play because I have seen some strange ones over the years.

  4. Here are the ways to lose, according to the BCA website:

    4.20   LOSS OF GAME

A player loses the game by committing any of the following infractions:

    1.  Fouls when pocketing the 8-ball (exception: see 8-Ball Pocketed On The Break).

    2.  Pockets the 8-ball on the same stroke as the last of his group of balls.

    3.  Jumps the 8-ball off the table at any time.

    4.  Pockets the 8-ball in a pocket other than the one designated.

    5.  Pockets the 8-ball when it is not the legal object ball.

So you see both of the situations you mentioned are included in the BCA "Loss of Game".  I'd like to note as well that according to BCA rules, as Straight pointed out, scratching while shooting the 8-ball does not result in a loss of game if the 8-ball is not pocketed. However, in APA league play, it's a loss. There are so many APA players (and therefore players who usually shoot by those rules) that I think it's necessary to mention their rules from time to time.

  5. Eightbraker is right.  The 8-ball must be pocketed on it's own shot.  Also, you only lose if you pocket BOTH the 8-ball and the cue ball.  If you miss the 8-ball and scratch, it is not a loss of game, simply a scratch like any other.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  6. If you scratch on the eight you lose no matter which ball goes in first. You can not combo in the eight ball with any object ball. The 8 ball must be pocketed by itself after you have already made all of your stripes or solids , whichever you were shooting.

so if u scratch while pocketing the 8 ball then it is as good as giving your opponent the game

i thought u might be interested in the rules of how a player can lose a game

A player loses the game by committing any of the following infractions:

    1. Fouls when pocketing the 8-ball (exception: see 8-Ball Pocketed On The Break).

    2. Pockets the 8-ball on the same stroke as the last of his group of balls.

    3. Jumps the 8-ball off the table at any time.

    4. Pockets the 8-ball in a pocket other than the one designated.

    5. Pockets the 8-ball when it is not the legal object ball.

  7. You always lose on a scratch, no matter when it falls on the eight ball. And you cannot use the eight ball in a combo. This all depends on the league, if any , you play in.
