  1. no it is a foul and it is the other persons turn.

  2. There are so many local rules it is hard to say.  If the cue ball hits a solid ball first then caroms into the stripe ball and knocks it in the pocket it may be legal depending on the rules.

Local bar rules can be very strange and can work against those playing by recognized rules like BCA or APA.

So know your local rules before you play.

  3. its a foul man. even thought your ball got sunk, you hit the opponents ball first, which is a foul. their shot (two shots if you play how we play)

  4. Only time I know you can do this is after the opponent breaks and leaves an open table. Your then able to shoot stripe into solid giving you solids for the duration of the game.

During the game you can shoot a three way combo with a stripe in the middle. If I want to use the eight ball as neutral I usually ask the person I'm playing if it's cool, then you can use it as middle or off ball.

  5. No, Its a foul

  6. yes. duh, you made a solid in the pocket. its all yours, but if you hit one of each, solids and stripes, it is the other persons turn

  7. The only way this could be legal is if you state the rules before you play. However I wouldn't advise you to go to a bar and try to get away with it. If your solids then you need to hit your own balls or get better at getting around the ones that are in your way.

  8. as long as you called it

  9. No. This is actually considered a foul. You must strike the cue ball and hit one of your colored balls first. Now if by some chance you hit the cue ball into a solid into a stripe which in turn hits a solid into the pocket then it is called a combination shot and is legal.

  10. No. It is NOT your shot again if you shoot the cue ball into your opponent's ball first (stripes in this case), before striking your own ball (solids, in your case) first.

It is a foul. You lose your shot. Depending on what rules you are playing by: you will either 1.) lose your turn and your opponent will shoot the balls as they lie; or 2.) your opponent will be given "ball-in-hand", meaning that he/she may place the cue ball anywhere on the table.

Here's a link to the Official rules of Eight ball:

However you decide to play, it is important to be sure that you and your opponent both understand the rules. In any case, you lose your shot if you are solids and you hit a stripe first, as you initially asked.

  11. I think you have fouled and the turn goes to the opponent. You must hit a solid when playing a combination for the point to count.

  12. It's a foul. You have to hit one of your balls first. This results in a ball-in-hand.

  13. In most cases that is a foul... I have played in many pool halls and one thing I learned is that everybody has their own rules; so its best to come to an agreement of rules before you begin the match. I honestly think that everybody should play by BCA or APA rules.

  14. no that is a foul and it goes ball in hand to your opponent. but a lot of times when i play someone in a tournament or whatever we usually state some rules we usually play by and try to agree on things before the game so when it comes to the shot there isnt a huge arguement over it. also you can "call your shot" saying that you are intending on hitting the stripe into your solid to sink your ball. however youre probably not going to get someone to agree to that as a legal shot. its called "slop" hope this helped you out
